Scouts BSA Troop 303 - Hohenfels, Germany

Cub Scout Pack 303

Cub Scout Pack 303 meets at Hohenfels, Germany. We offer programs for children (5-11) to introduce them to the values and skills of scouting. Our activities include camping, hiking, and community service projects, all designed to be age-appropriate and engaging for our Cub Scouts.

What are Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts is a year-round program open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 5th grade. It offers fun activities that promote character and leadership development. Our program is hands-on, and parents are encouraged to play an active role. Scouting embraces the outdoors through camping, hiking, and water sports. We also focus on community service projects, STEM development, and building confident kids through a wide range of activities.

What are the Cub Scout ranks?

How does rank advancement work?

Scouts work with their Den Leader on the requirements for earning required badges and elective adventures, but some activities are completed at home with the family. Tigers and above begin by completing their Bobcat rank, then move on to rank-specific requirements. Details can be found in your Scout’s handbook or at www.Scoutbook.org. Scoutbook is also where parents and Den Leaders record accomplishments as completed, approved, and awarded. When parents enter accomplishments, they are asked to send photo proof to the Den Leader for approval.

How often are the meetings and where do they take place?

Your Scout will be placed in a small group with other Scouts in the same grade; these groups are called Dens. Dens meet weekly at a time and day set by the Den Leader. Once a month, all the Dens and parents come together for a Pack Meeting (there isn't a typical time frame as we try to schedule around German/DODEA school holidays, four-day weekends, and rotations). In addition, the Pack or Den may plan optional activities like hikes, campouts, and service projects outside the weekly meetings. Most meetings are held at Building 64, next to the sportsplatz, behind the PX. If the meeting is elsewhere, the Den Leader will inform you. The Pack uses an app called BAND to communicate; all meetings and events are listed there.

Can I drop my Scout off or do I have to stay?

Parents of Cub Scouts must stay with their Scout during Den Meetings.

How much does Scouting cost?

Registration fees are an all-inclusive yearly cost; as of May 1, 2024, they are $133. We also have Pack dues of $60 per year or $5 per month, which can be paid over the year or all at once. Pack dues are paid directly to the Scout hut and help fund things like food and drinks for pack events, neckerchiefs, belts, adventure loop awards, pack and den meeting supplies, tent site costs, etc. You can visit the TAC website to see a complete breakdown of all the fees: Membership Fees - Transatlantic Council (tac-bsa.org). Your Scout will also need a uniform (see below).

What are the uniform requirements?

Each Scout will need a uniform to wear to meetings (unless otherwise notified). Tigers and above will need a rank-specific button-down shirt with three starter patches, belt, neckerchief, and slide. The Pack will provide a rank-appropriate neckerchief. Parents can purchase the remaining items online at www.scoutshop.org. Lions wear their official T-shirt and belt. Please ask any questions you may have before purchasing. TAC has a store in Brussels which usually ships faster; the website address and password for members only are located in the BAND app.

My Scout has siblings; may I bring them to meetings/events?

Absolutely! Scouting is a family program, and siblings and families are always welcome at Scouting events. Please bring something to keep them busy, and understand that the Den Leader’s responsibility is to the Scouts.

I am interested in getting involved, but I’m new to Scouting. Can I volunteer even though I have no experience?

Absolutely! The BSA has a great online training program that will teach you everything you need to know to get started, and there are many other resources and guides to help you succeed. Experienced leaders within the Pack will always assist you in any way possible.

I would like to help but am unable to commit to being a leader. Is there anything else I can do to help out?

Yes, we always have room for volunteers! Please check with your Den Leader to see if they need assistance. If you are interested in being involved at the Pack level, please let us know—we have several open positions.

My child is interested in Scouting. Can they attend a Den Meeting or two before deciding to join?

Yes! Just let your Den Leader know. (A parent must stay at all times during trial periods.)
